Since my in-process my piece has been fired and then painted with acrylic paint. After the paint dried my piece was sprayed with a finish to create a shiny look to it.

I plan to use my piece as a keep safe box. I plan on finishing my piece completing a bisque fire and then painting the craving with green and gold. The rest of the box will be painted white and to fully finish the piece a gloss will be sprayed on.
I found creating the box's sides themselves very hard. It was difficult to get the four sides to stay up together with the scratch and slip method without messing up the slabs. So far I have found craving my piece to be very successful using two different craving tools. Also the lid to my piece was successful because it has great shape and holds in place correctly. The first step to my piece was to roll at a slab of clay to then cut out my 4 sides. Once I had cut my 4 sides I used the scratch and slip method to connect the pieces together. I then let that set and then cut out the bottom and top to my piece and connected the bottom. I then craved the designs on my greenware. Once the carving was complete the piece was put in the kiln to be bisque fired. My piece shows off the theme of "line" by showcasing different thicknesses and lengths of lines. Also the curves that can be in a line used to create a shape.
My piece was successful because it showed different types of lines and shapes. Also it showcased the wolf paw print the way I was hoping it would and created an interesting print. I would change the three dots on the sides of the paw print to either move them farther away or not have them at all. Also the lines within the main pad of the paw I would change to create an Irish knot or a different pattern. Danyelle Cropper is my mentor.Daynelle makes abstract pieces using shape or curved lines. Often she uses pencil mediums and sometimes crayons. The realistic pieces she creates always have a meaning and story behind them and use interesting colors at time to draw the observer in.
I believe I will benefit from it because she and I have similar likes and this will allow me to have someone to turn to when I need help with a piece or I am lost on what to do. I hope to get great advise on my pieces and feedback to make me a stronger artist. |
